A Short Story

I was in Yumin Primary School, which was near my house. Everyday my mum would bring me homecooked food and walked me to school. I told my mum everything; the number of times i went toilet, things teacher said and funny things that happened in class. At that point of time, family is the most important to me.

I went on to Anglican High School, which was further away from my house. Everyday i had to go to school on my own and buy my own lunch/breakfast. I stayed in school for longer hours. My life began to revolve around friends. I started to neglect my family. I told lies just to avoid going home. I would rather hang out with my friends. During this time, i learnt about heartbreaks, rejection and peer pressure. Why? Because my best friend got attached and neglected me. My group of friends wanted me to do things i hated. For example, walking around the mall aimlessly, laughing at less fortunate people, littering for the 'i'm cool' effect... I felt less happy than i was in primary school.

Ultimately, your friends would get married and start their own families. Hence, the only BFF you will truely have will be your own family. I understand how teenagers your age feel. But do not neglect them because they are the ones who will truely love you unconditionally. Your friends might leave you if you do not conform to their expectations. However, your family will always be there through your darkest hours.

-End

Yimin your 2 hours detention is still not served. i reserve the rights to dish out the punishment when i deem fit.

Reminder to those attending English remedial. There is an assignment to be done. It is due next remedial. Anyone of you who failed to complete it will serve 30mins detention. Those who continue to not pay attention in class, ie, rest your head on the table, excessive chatting, sloppy work, will serve 30mins detention. I will spot check the class and check with the teacher.

I have been told about excessive chatting in class. Especially Timothy, Yimin and Stella. I remember the 3 strike rule. It is a good idea. I understand sometimes you will need to talk to your friends. But any unauthorised chatting for more than 30secs is not allowed. Because you will be disturbing your classmates and disrupting the lesson. Starting from next week, the CEC members have the authority to decide if you are talking excessively in class and dish out the 3 strike rule. Also, anyone who are identified by the subject teachers as talkative in her/his class will automatically 'strike out'. Those who 'strike-out' will serve 1 hour detention.

All detention will take priority over your tuition, project work, meeting with friends.... all the excuses. I will personally call your parents to inform them of the detention; and also the reason why you are detained.

Reason why i am doing this - Since you do not behave like HUM classes, i will have to enforce stricter rules to make sure you do. You are my form class. So technically you are my children; meaning i am responsible for you. If you behave badly during other subjects, you are a disgrace to me because it means that i failed to teach you the correct behaviour. It's time to put a stop to all your nonsense.

Why do we have CNY Decorations?
The main point of having such events is to allow students to develop class spirit. And most importantly, to learn about teamwork. When you grow up and start working, you will come to realise that the ability of working with different types of people is a much needed quality.

There are many different personalities in the world. In school, you could choose to say ' i don't like her/him', and proceed to do your own thing. Or you can identify his/her strong points and capitalize on them.

I hope this CNY deco has helped the class to know each other better. If you have not contribute much to this deco, please start to get more involved now. You only get to live secondary school once. And trust me, most of your lifelong friends will be from your secondary school.

New Initiatives

Ever wonder why is Hougang Mall built at this location? Why is there CPF in Singapore? Why is there a geography blog?

These all come to exist for the convenience of people and to improve our lives.

They exist because people took the initiatives to make it happen.

Of course you will not be able to build shopping malls or pass legislation now. But you can cultivate the right kind of spirit now.

Please come to me or Mrs Ho if you have any suggestions to improve the learning environment of the class. It can be a simple initiative such as class markers. Or an elaborated one such as a 'Points System' to encourage desirable behaviour.

Each month we will have a few initiatives to improve the class. For this month, Ms Zhang has already started the ball rolling with 2 simple initiatives stated to the right of this blog.

Anyone can contribute, whether you are CEC members or not.

All you need is the courage to lead, compassion to serve.
